Duties

• Managing your security shift staff with regards to time and attendance, patrols, performance and adhering to security protocols;
• Knowledge of performance appraisals and conducting performance appraisals of your subordinates as per Stellenbosch Universitys performance management protocols;
• Managing, overseeing and actively participating in security patrolling by motor vehicle, motorcycle  and on foot;
• Managing and overseeing the proactive identification, investigation, follow-up and record-keeping of high risk circumstances that can jeopardise the safety of the Universitys property and community;
• Managing and overseeing the optimal utilisation of the SUs security technologies such as  alarms, CCTV systems, patrol monitoring systems and camera monitoring. Must have an in-depth knowledge of all systems within the Operational Centre;
• The ability to apply your knowledge and skills to constantly recommend process improvements within the area of responsibility;
• Acting as enquiry and reference point for Stellenbosch University during patrols on campus;
• Availability to work shifts as well as overtime and standby duties as required by the Universitys security operations;
• Supporting and assisting Campus Security staff with conducting fire demonstrations and safety  talks to members of the campus community;
• Managing, overseeing and ensuring compliance to all SU contract security provisions as per Service Level Agreements with appointed contracted security service providers;
• Rendering support to the security operations manager with conducting security operations;
• Ensuring that all members on their shift are trained and fit to render optimal security patrol services;
• Managing all shift logistic requirements such as, for example, uniforms, vehicles, flashlights, and two-way radio availability and reporting all defects to the security operations manager.

Job Requirements

• Grade 12;
• Valid registration with PSIRA;
• Events registered with PSIRA;
• Proven security and control room experience;
• Grade B PSIRA;
• Excellent verbal communication skills in at least Afrikaans or English;
• Clear criminal record;Good physical and psychological health;
• Willingness to work shifts;
• Willingness to provide extra services as required from time to time;
• Computer literate.

Recommendation

• A valid Code EB drivers licence;
• Skilled in the use of MS Outlook, Excel, etc;
• The ability to communicate in a second language;
• Experience in a supervisory position within a security services division;
• Experience in rendering security services at an institution of tertiary education.
