    Manager: Occupational Health & Safety And Disaster Management – REF: JW390EX/2024

    PURPOSE

    • Advise the Executive Director, Senior Managers, Line Management, and HR Practitioners. Liaise with the Department of Labour, Health & Safety Organizations, Legal Representatives, and suppliers of safety equipment and training. Lead and direct the functions of Occupational Health and Safety and Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) at Johannesburg Water, both strategically and operationally, to promote the health and well-being of all employees and ensure legal compliance.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop and present the OH&S and Disaster Management’s annual budget and operations plan for integration into the overall budget.
    • Ensure staff are capable of delivering services effectively according to identified needs and planned programs.
    • Plan and oversee employee development, performance management processes, and programs.
    • Uphold the core values of Johannesburg Water.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to occupational health and safety throughout Johannesburg Water.
    • Establish and manage control systems and processes necessary for the success of OH&S and Disaster Management.
    • Control expenditure, ensuring spending is appropriate and necessary for achieving objectives.
    • Manage all resources of the OH&S and Disaster Management in a responsible and cost-effective manner.
    • Act on behalf of the Executive Director in compliance with Section 16(2) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, ensuring the employer’s duties are properly maintained.
    • Ensure adherence to procedures under the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COID).
    • Lead and direct strategies for risk analysis across all workplaces within Johannesburg Water.
    • Prioritize the identification of potentially hazardous activities and processes, and recommend corrective measures.
    • Conduct needs analyses to determine specific training needs and legislative requirements.
    • Monitor the achievement of established Health and Safety objectives.
    • Develop disaster management plans in coordination with line management for high-risk areas, head office, and Diepsloot Pipe Bridge.
    • Conduct investigations to assess the environmental and public health impact of incidents, based on the severity of the case.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Essential Qualifications and Experience

    • B Tech / Degree (NQF 7) in Safety, Risk, Environmental Management, Health, Science, or Engineering
    • 5 years of experience in safety, health, environment, or risk quality systems development and planning, including 3 years in a management role
    • Valid Driver’s License
