    Experimental Chemist

    Minimum Requirements

    Minimum Education:

    • NQF 6 N.Dip. in Chemistry or Natural Sciences
    • Registration as a Candidate in a Professional registration

    Desired Education:

    • NQF 7 BSc / BTech. / Chemistry, Water Care and Chemical Engineering)
    • Two years’ experience in the drinking water treatment laboratory.
    • Code B driver’s license with the driving skills to pass Rand Water’s driver competency test.

    Primary Duties

    • Perform specialized or complex analytical analysis on water samples and solid samples
    • Chemical and physical analyses for routine, ad-hoc, short-term and long-term projects.
    • Planning and execution of the technical evaluation of water treatment chemicals following established procedures
    • Compiling chemical evaluation reports
    • Assisting with feasibility studies for new research projects
    • Implementation and management of the quality systems in the laboratory
    • Identification, investigation, documentation, and reporting of non-conforming results.
    • Approval of results on the identified databases.
    • Preparation of chemicals in accordance with the procedures.
    • Maintenance /calibration of the lab of equipment and instrumentation
    • Training of staff to ensure competency on methods
    • Updating of the laboratory methods in accordance with the QMS requirements
    • Validation and/ verification of laboratory methods and instruments
    • Implementation of the ISO 17025 accreditation system
    • Adherence to legal and Rand Water safety, health environment and quality standards relating to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001.

    Knowledge

    • Knowledge of drinking water or wastewater treatment.
    • Knowledge of drinking water analysis.
    • Knowledge of ISO 17025, ISO 19001, and 14OO1
    • Knowledge of LIMS
    • Familiarity with a water-related research and development environment.
    • Working Knowledge of Statistics
    • Good knowledge of laboratory
  • Aptitude Tests
