    Legal Intern

    Purpose of the Job:

    Macmillan Education South Africa is seeking to appoint a recent graduate to the position of Legal and Compliance Intern. The successful applicant will among other things provide support to the legal and compliance team and the company.

    Requirements

    • LLB degree from a registered university or institution recognised by the Legal Practice Counsel as having the ability to confer such degree in South Africa.
    • You are a South African graduate and have completed your qualification within the last 3yrs 2021-2023/4.
    • You are fluent in English (speaking and writing).
    • Interpret legal documents including legislation, opinions, cases etc.
    • Have knowledge or practical experience of/in the following areas of law IP, Company law, Contract law and Commercial/Litigation.
    • Good knowledge or practical experience with respect to administration, governance and compliance issues.
    • Analytical and critical thinking and strong application of legal knowledge to situations.
    • Good problem-solving skills.
    • High attention to detail.
    • High EQ, people orientated with good interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Highly organised and goal driven.
    • Confident.
    • Patient.
    • High level of integrity and professionalism.
    • Ability to function under pressure.
    • Strives for excellence.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Reviewing and drafting of agreements.
    • Drafting minutes of meetings and resolutions and keeping records in accordance with statutory requirements.
    • Conduct research, distil and communicate the impact of regulatory and other matters on the business.
    • Promoting awareness of policies throughout the business.
    • Departmental administration.
    • Administration relating to firms of external attorneys.
    • Preparing invoices for payment.
    • Identifying, indexing, storing and managing vital documents.
    • Contract management from inception i.e. receipt of instruction, to end of life of contract.
    • Drafting contracts from precedents.
    • Organising and presenting training to the business.
    • Following up to ensure training priorities met.
    • Liaising with external company secretaries.
    • Maintaining company records.
    • Maintaining and updating schedules of company information.
